International Association of Peace Messenger Cities

The International Association of Peace Messenger Cities was founded to encourage the role and responsibility of cities in creating a culture of peace and to build a world less violent and more humane, a world of tolerance and mutual respect.

The founding general assembly was organized in Verdun, France in 1988.

The Association was created on the initiative of the then UN Secretary General Javier Peres De Cuellar. The cities have pledged to use the various means at their disposal to contribute effectively and in close cooperation with the United Nations to building peace globally.

It consists of a 15-member Executive Secretariat and Morphou holds the honorary position of one of the Vice-Presidents.
